Welcome To Lake Royale
We are glad that you are interested in our growing resort community.
Whether you live here permanently or enjoy a holiday residence or campsite, Lake Royale is a friendly and pleasant
place to be.
History:
Lake Royale was formerly part of the Seven Paths farming community. In 1970, members of
the American Realty Corporation started to purchase land. The land along the banks of Cypress
Creek was cleared, a dam constructed, and thus the beginning of Lake Sagamore. In 1972, American
Realty built the lodge and started selling lots on the west side. In 1977, Lake Sagamore was
purchased by the National American Corporation (NACO) and the name was changed to Lake Royale.
The back nine holes of the golf course were opened for play in 1987, while the front nine were
completed in the spring of 1990. Growing rapidly, the Property Owners Association (POA) built
their administration building at the entrance to the lake shortly thereafter.
Recreation:
Lake Royale offers a year-round recreation program, such as dances, dinners, sports, children's
activities and socials. Located on the waterfront, the lodge serves the community as a recreation
center, complete with an exercise room, beach, dock and picnic area. The pavilion (on the east side
of the lake) has another beach, a sheltered picnic area, a miniature golf course, restrooms, and a
boat ramp. Other amenities include a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, horseshoe pits,
shuffle board and a full 18-hole golf course with property owner discounts.
Facts:
The lake is man-made. Approximately 272 feet above sea level, it consists of 345 acres, with a
length of 3.25 miles and a maximum lake depth (located opposite the clubhouse) of forty feet.
The shoreline is eleven miles long and with a distance around the lake on Sagamore Drive of 13.5
miles. There are over 60 miles of roads, with a 1200 foot dam, and a 288 foot concrete spillway.
The overall property of Lake Royale is 3500 acres which completely surrounds the basin, being fed
by Cypress Creek and numerous springs. Presently, there are over 800 permanent residents scattered
over more than 6000 residential, camping and golf course lots. Lake Royale is a diverse community
with young families, individuals with careers, and retirees.
A residence cannot be built on a camping lot, nor can a camper be put on a residential lot.
The minimum requirement for a home is 1400 square feet. The by-laws and covenants are available on
the Property Owners Association website, www.lrpoa.com and provide much more information about
requirements. The POA office has a full-time manager and an office staff. The lake is governed by
a Board of Trustees elected by the property owners. A Building Committee, Finance Committee and
Board of Adjustments are among the many support groups which enlist the help of the POA members.
To many, one of the most appealing features is the Lake Royale Police Department with 24-hour gate
security. In addition, there is a maintenance crew, as well as a janitorial crew for the clubhouse,
comfort stations, etc.
